A Life Changing event that I attended
It was one evening on 31st January 2010 when I came face to face with the fingers of death. I was involved in a bad accident on my way from Wakaligga where I had gone to watch a Premier League game between Manchester United and Arsenal FC which ended in a 3-2 win in favor of Manchester United (the team I support).
The accident happened at one of the junctions along Namirembe Rd where a Fuso truck knocked down the Motorcycle (boda boda) I was seated on leaving my left foot with a very deep and wide cut. By God’s grace I was rushed to Bai Health and Medical Center where the doctor stitched my foot and gave us medication before discharging us .
I remember calling my boyfriend then and my cousin with whom I was staying informing them of the incident and they came running. I intentionally refused to let my mum know because I did not want to get her in panic mode… I continued to get medication and my mum got to know 2 weeks later when I was in a better shape too. The wound healed steadily and by the year 2012, my foot was back to normal duties though with a deep and visible scar.
This event that I witnessed changed my life in tremendous ways progressively as explained below;
• First and foremost, I was fully awakened to the truth that there is death and life. I was brought to full understanding of the declaration that I shall not die before accomplishing God’s purpose for my life. How the truck did not smash us completely, I do not know🤷 All I know is that God sheilded me from harm to keep me alive for a reason.💃💃💃 I was also awakened to the fact that I was given a second chance in life to maximize my potential , something I am still sold out to till forever.
• My social facet also changed in a way that ever since that day, I stopped going to hangouts to watch soccer considering the fact that I love soccer as my favorite sport. If I am to watch soccer, I do it from home or livestreaming online.
• I further got to learn to treasure life more and do everything in the time I am meant to. Procrastination started it’s journey out of my life after that event and currently I am much better. Ever since then, I started paying more attention to time, following through with my to-do lists and also encouraging the people around me not to keep forwarding assignments to another date because such actions rob people of their time.
• Finally, I got to experience what it means being available for your friends at all times. During that time, there was this particular friend who constantly was available to help, watch and nurse me. For once I felt loved after a series of heartbreaks I had gone through the previous year 2009. Up until now, although we are in separate locations, this friend keeps calling just to find out how my foot is and have a look at my scar.
That is how I learned loyalty more and this is something I value in my current life and forever. There is a fulfilment and blessing that comes with showing up for people.
You see, it’s never the environment; it’s never the events of our lives, but the meaning we attach to the events – how we interpret them – that shapes who we are today and who we’ll become tomorrow.
I am the Lioness Arising!
