Lessons on The Power of Words

Hello precious soul,

For this whole month I have been sharing some lessons that I have learned in life starting with those from the book – The War of Art, then those on loyalty and today I share what I have learned about words.

Words!

Words are powerful!
They have so much power that they create worlds. God created the world using words. He said and things came into existence.
We sing out words and mountains move
We speak words and people get healed
We read the word of God and get revelation and encouragement.
We meditate on God’s word and understand how to lead better.
Words produce destinies
Our faith is built with God’s word, reading it over and over

Words are powerful!
When written and organized they become books.
These books can be fiction, non-fiction, poetry collections, autobiographies …etc.
Such books play a vital role in preserving culture and information
When read, these books are sources of knowledge, wisdom and answers to many life questions.
Written words have also been used for communication with the deaf
They also help reach places where one cannot reach physically. I like to say, if you cannot go there, send there a book/article or letter.
These books too have become sources of income to people thereby making their lives better.
Written words also are of a great influence in both the political and economic worlds. Standards are written down and constitutions made using words.

Words are powerful
Words when painted can become great images rather call them art pieces.
Images that speak volumes about the human nature, nations, cities, tribes and origins.
Images that tell stories of transformation or heritage…
Images that push a message against certain evils say the different forms of violence
Images that can attract tourists who later earn us foreign exchange
Images that can be sold to get funds to solve problems for example using word art pieces to fundraising towards building a home for some orphanage or to bring safe water to some area.
I like to believe most artistic images or paintings are words drawn out. Within each painting, there is a story being told.

Words are powerful!
When spoken and recorded can become podcasts.
Podcasts that will help people share their opinions on a matters concerning social development
Podcasts that are educative and will enlighten a generation on a concept that will help them lead better lives
Podcasts too can be used to lead movements, movements that cause transformation in the world
Words when recorded audibly with harmonies can become songs or anthems. I love the Ugandan anthem
Music is medicine to the soul and this is therapeutic. Personally, I will play music to cheer me up each time I feel downcast
Songs can be used for entertainment to plant smiles on people’s faces as they celebrate life and as I like to say; a smile a day keeps the doctor away.
So yeah, words keep us healthy, especially we speak good words into our lives by faith.

Words are powerful!
When written or spoken, they shape one’s identity or that of a group of people for example for the various spiritual groups, they derive their identity from their spiritual books
Words literally make you who you are. These can be words you either tell yourself or are spoken to or over you.
Your identity is shaped for example by the advice you receive from people, the words they use to call out the gifts and greatness within you or the words you listen to at conferences or via any other media.

A personal story on the power of words is;

Back in 2012 while in some fellowship meeting, I was asked to lead a song and immediately after singing, one of the leaders made a joke of how I sung in all voices at the same time thereby making me a not so good singer. This leader thought it was just a joke but my mind picked those words and formed an identity around them up to now. If you asked me to sing, I will gladly tell you how I am not a good singer. I am however working towards singing more often regardless of the past because I love my shower-singing-moments.
So, I cannot imagine the different identities (be it good or bad) that have been created around the words spoken into the different lives of people!

Finally,

Just like how words can build or heal, they can break or hurt.
They have the power to cause a revolution or kill good ideas
They can fathom a tribe or kill it by introducing new ideas, values and culture
They can keep a leader in power or bring them down
They can be truth or deceptive
They can bring about life or death
and hence we need to be wise while using them.

The words we speak should be representative of who we are and whose we are
They should be respectful and spoken with love because they have power!

Are your words full of life or death?

πŸ‘†πŸ‘†πŸ‘†A question for each of us to answer/reflect on in our personal time.

Therefore, it is my earnest prayer that we have God honoring speeches and our words should breath out life.
May our words sound like heaven!

Until then, stay safe and keep hoping for the best.

I love you!

First of all, I love how you write your articles. They are very different. πŸ’•

Secondly, I have always been amused at how a few and probably simple individual words, when put together, are powerful enough to change lives and make or break things.

It’s very important that we are mindful about our words and we should definitely use them to speak life.

    Thanks for sharing this!

  7. Words when attached to humans become names, and every time we are calling that person we are attaching whatever energy their name has to it. Loved how you laid it all down. May I speak life
